Environmental Responsibility Statement

I am an active member of the Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC), an international community of arts organizations working to reduce the sector’s environmental impacts. The primary impacts of art studios typically include shipping, travel, and workspace energy. In joining the GCC, I have committed to addressing these by:

  • Pledging to at least halve my carbon emissions by 2030 from a pre-pandemic 2019 baseline.

  • Regularly calculating the carbon footprint of my operations to track progress toward this target.

  • Setting specific targets for the major parts of my footprint, including:

    • Ensuring the majority of my international shipping is carried out by sea, rail, or road rather than air by 2028.

    • Ensuring all of my packing materials are reusable or curbside recyclable by 2026 as a step towards zero-waste operations by 2030.

    • Using reputable renewable energy providers for my workspaces by 2025.

    • Using low or zero-emissions vehicles for local deliveries by 2025.

  • The actions I am taking to meet these targets include:

    • Speaking to shippers about alternatives to air freight. Planning exhibitions and events with care to minimize the need for air freight.

    • Reviewing my travel practices and planning attendance for events to reduce the need for air travel.

    • Carrying out an energy audit of my workspaces to find energy reduction and renewable generation opportunities.

Lastly, I am setting aside one percent of my annual revenue into a Strategic Climate Fund to support global grassroots climate solutions rather than purchasing carbon offsets. I will report on this through my membership with 1% for the Planet, a global network of businesses and individuals donating one percent of annual sales to nonprofit environmental organizations.
